In the new podcast episode, the city council group Freie W\u00e4hler and F\u00dcR Karlsruhe talk about the development of the pedestrian zone in the city center and the challenges that the new year will bring for Karlsruhe.<\/p>\n\n
There is particular concern about the Kaiserstrasse. City Councilor Petra Lorenz (Freie W\u00e4hler) reports many messages from citizens concerned about the future viability of the pedestrian zone:<\/p>\n\n
“When you walk on Kaiserstrasse, you notice the vacancy and dingy facades. I can understand the fear. It will depend on many factors what happens to the city center in the future: will Galeria stay on Kaiserstrasse and are landlords willing to invest in the city center? The city government has little influence on that, but we can create an attractive framework.”<\/p>\n\n
Karlsruhe must strive to keep jobs in the city and make the marketplace attractive. For the city council group, a market hall on the market square would be worth considering. This would bring a new charm to the city center, if you don’t have to go to the discounter to get your lunch, but can get fresh produce on the market square, thinks city councilor Friedemann Kalmbach (F\u00dcR Karlsruhe).<\/p>\n\n
