City councillor Friedemann Kalmbach (electoral group F\u00dcR Karlsruhe) and member of the youth welfare and social committee visited three municipal youth welfare facilities with employees of the social services, the police, Mayor Lenz and other city councillors. The trip offered deep insights into the important work with children and young people who, for various reasons, cannot live with their families. <\/p>\n\n
“It was impressive to see the passion and dedication with which the social services, youth welfare office and police work together and give the children and young people a perspective,” emphasized Councillor Kalmbach. At the same time, he pointed out that the homes’ capacities are often fully utilized and that the shortage of skilled workers makes the already demanding work even more difficult. <\/p>\n\n
The visit highlighted the great need of many of the children and young people affected, but also the strength and expertise of the municipal facilities. He was particularly impressed by the fact that the children there learn everyday skills such as cooking, washing, filling out forms and attending medical appointments. “These skills not only help them during their time in the facilities, but also prepare them for an independent life,” explained Kalmbach. <\/p>\n\n
The tour also showed that the facilities remain a point of contact for many children and young people after their release. The relationships built up there give them stability and support beyond their time in the homes. <\/p>\n\n
“We are well positioned in Karlsruhe, but that should not be a reason to rest on our laurels,” continued Kalmbach. “The rising numbers and the high demand make it clear that we must continue to do everything we can to offer these children and young people prospects.” <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
