The city council groups have moved from Hebelstraße 13 to Hebelstraße 21. The building, which belongs to the Office for Building Construction and Building Management, has been unused for months. The city council group “Freie Wähler” and the voter group “FÜR Karlsruhe” have submitted a request to Karlsruhe City Council to obtain clarity about the future of Hebelstraße 13.

The idea was that the freely available apartments would be sold to Volkswohnung Karlsruhe and thus be added to the tight housing market. Group Chairman Friedemann Kalmbach emphasizes the urgency of selling the building as quickly as possible or using it for other purposes in order to counteract the tight housing market. The group proposes renting out the ground floor retail space now in order to make effective use of the space:

“We know from our own experience how difficult it is to find a suitable apartment in Karlsruhe. We think it’s a good idea for the former offices of the city council groups to go to Volkswohnungen and thus come onto the housing market – but it must now also be implemented quickly. We hope that our questions to the city administration will provide answers as to why the process is dragging on,” says parliamentary group chairman Friedemann Kalmbach.
