On March 12, the Karlsruhe district office announced that the Luca app was ready for use by the health department: “The technical hurdle was successfully cleared with the commissioning of the electronic interface at the Karlsruhe district office; From now on, data from the app can be incorporated into the work of the health department.”

The proposal for this step forward was made by the FW|FOR parliamentary group in an application to the city on February 23, while both the parliamentary group and the district parliamentary group of free voters expressed their support in open letters to District Administrator Dr. Christoph Schnaudigel made strong for the luca app.

City Councilor Petra Lorenz is confident: “The digitization location of Karlsruhe is predestined for the use of the app. With the advantages of effective transmission of health data and ease of use, the decision to use the luca app is very welcome.”

If as many citizens, shops and companies as possible take part, business openings and private meetings will move back into the realm of the possible. The essential communication of the app from the city to the citizens is still pending. It will be used at the next council meeting.

In the application from February, the FW|FOR parliamentary group drew attention to the possibilities of the luca app and proposed an information campaign on the use of the app with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This should be implemented as soon as possible in order to inform citizens and businesses about the advantages of use and to promote nationwide application. Data protection and security concerns can be eliminated in the long term by switching the app to open source, it was also said in the broadcast of the situation in Karlsruhe last week .
