For a long time now, there have been traffic jams in Karlsruhe’s citizens’ offices. Passport changes, re-registrations, and even small requests cannot be processed for a long time by overburdened offices. Even for an appointment you often have to wait. CDU mayor Dr. Albert Käuflein described in the podcast of the Free Voters and FOR Karlsruhe that the problem in the offices is “not a trivial one.”
The parliamentary group Freie Wähler and FÜR Karlsruhe therefore proposes the “Virtual Citizens’ Office”. There, citizens have the opportunity to visit the citizens’ office via video call and submit their applications digitally and pay online.
“Especially in light of the cold months, when infection rates could increase again and Corona measures become necessary, an expanded online offering from city offices would be very important. Karlsruhe should now finally become a digital location in the municipal offices as well,” pleads city councilor Petra Lorenz.
A digital citizens’ registration office is already offered in Heidelberg: Registration and reregistration when changing residence, deregistration when moving, registration and residence certificates, information from the residents’ register, certificates of good conduct and residents’ or severely disabled parking permits can be applied for easily online.
The parliamentary group addresses its proposal to the city administration as a motion for discussion in the Karlsruhe City Council.
