In the latest episode of the podcast “The situation in Karlsruhe”, the voter group FÜR Karlsruhe addresses a surprising topic: the feeling of happiness in the city.

“Karlsruhe invests an above-average amount in its citizens – both in infrastructure and in social projects. This is reflected in a low minimum security rate and a low risk of poverty,” explains group executive Micha Schlittenhardt in the current podcast episode. However, despite these positive framework conditions, it seems as if there is an underlying “grumpy” feeling in the city.

According to city councillor Friedemann Kalmbach, one possible reason for this discrepancy could be the delay of major long-term projects such as the combined solution and the Stadthalle. These projects, which are repeatedly postponed, contribute to the frustration of citizens. The podcast emphasizes that more open and transparent communication on the part of the city administration would be crucial in order to improve the trust and satisfaction of Karlsruhe residents in the long term.

The episode “Happiness in Karlsruhe” also raises interesting questions: What are the factors that contribute to citizens’ dissatisfaction, even though the city objectively offers many advantages? And how can the subjective perception of residents be improved?
