In the past few months, the Free Voters and For Karlsruhe parliamentary group has received several messages from parents who described the unacceptable situation in the Espira day-care center in Knielingen. The well-being of the child was no longer assured and responsible care was impossible due to a lack of staff. The frequent staff turnover was also denounced, which made it very difficult for the child to have a trusting relationship with the educator, and shortened opening times, which Espira enforced without further communication.

The faction resisted a simple continue-so in the Espira day-care center. They turned to the municipal council and the Karlsruhe social mayor, Dr. Lenz to draw attention to the situation and initiate a necessary turnaround – this has now happened. Espira hands over its sponsorship of the Knielingen day care center to the city. “The well-being of the children always comes first. We were shocked by the news that the parents’ council of the day-care center sent to us – these were unacceptable conditions,” says City Councilor Petra Lorenz, “we welcome the measure that the city takes responsibility as the provider and therefore takes over for the children.” A smooth transition must now be organized so that the situation calms down and the children can be looked after appropriately from now on.
