Reason
According to media reports, the Emotikon study in Potsdam and the WHO, children and young people in particular are becoming less physically active. As a result, physical inactivity has become a serious problem. As a group, we wonder how the situation is evaluated by the city and schools. To counteract children’s physical inactivity, schools can make an important contribution through curricular physical education and swimming classes, as well as through activities that could be offered by the school and the city outside of regular physical education classes, such as sports clubs, joint physical activity programs, and recess games to encourage students to be more physically active.
Through this question, we would like to clarify how much the hall situation in Karlsruhe contributes to physical inactivity and what the situation is regarding school-based physical activity support in Karlsruhe. Time and time again, the lack of resources, as well as qualified teaching staff, seems to cause shortfalls in physical education and swimming lessons. Here we would like to get an up-to-date overview.
In addition, we would like to initiate a solution-oriented debate on ways to promote physical activity for our children and young people and find solutions on how the city can have a supportive effect on sporting activity. The city’s offerings, such as the calisthenics facilities created in cooperation with the horticultural department, as well as the sports and green spaces and the diverse club landscape, are already welcome.
