Reason / Facts
The 2029 World Games represent a great opportunity for the city and offer the chance to benefit both economically and in terms of international reputation. They could provide a positive impetus for tourism, sport and urban development and contribute to a sense of unity in urban society. At the same time, the financial challenges of staging the event should not be underestimated. In view of the commitment already made to host the World Games, it is virtually impossible to withdraw, which is why viable financing models are required. Proportionate use of the revenue from the new accommodation tax is an obvious option, as it is borne by visitors to the city who also benefit from the international appeal of the event.
