The “FÜR Karlsruhe” voter group, represented by City Councilmember Friedemann Kalmbach, considers its long-standing demand to have been met and welcomes the planned use of the former “House of City Council Groups” by the Student Services Organization.

The sale of assets not essential to operations to ease the strain on the city budget is in line with a long-standing demand by FÜR Karlsruhe to contribute to fiscal consolidation during times of tight budgets and to save on future renovation and maintenance costs. FÜR Karlsruhe particularly welcomes the fact that the former “Haus der city council groups” is to be sold to the Studierendenwerk. This planned use creates a twofold benefit for the city: on the one hand, it generates urgently needed funds for the budget; on the other hand, it significantly enhances Karlsruhe’s status as a center for science and higher education. In a central downtown location, this creates space that directly benefits students and sustainably strengthens student life in the heart of the city.

City Councilman Friedemann Kalmbach (FÜR Karlsruhe) explains:
“The fact that this building will be used by the Studierendenwerk in the future is excellent news for Karlsruhe. This allows us to combine budgetary discipline with forward-looking urban development: The city is relieving its finances of the burden of maintenance and the backlog of renovations, while at the same time creating real added value for our students right in the heart of downtown. This is exactly the pragmatic approach we need given the current budget situation.”

FÜR Karlsruhe will continue to monitor the ongoing process of real estate sales and future discussions on the consolidation of city-owned property in a constructive yet critical manner.
