The Karlsruhe municipal council met for the first time in its new composition. All councillors, whether new to the council or re-elected, made a commitment and then addressed the first topics of the still young legislative period.

The changes in composition are particularly evident in the new city council groups and city council groups. City Councillor Friedemann Kalmbach (FÜR Karlsruhe), who formed a city council group with the Free Voters in the previous legislature, will in future work on the political challenges in Karlsruhe as an individual city councillor.

City Councillor Kalmbach is looking forward to continuing to contribute the ideas of the FÜR Karlsruhe electoral group to city politics: “Our objective and constructive work as a city council group has had a positive influence on the cityscape in recent years. We want to solve problems and pursue innovative approaches in order to achieve the best for Karlsruhe. In my role as a city councillor for FÜR Karlsruhe, I will continue on this path. I look forward to working with my new and familiar colleagues on the municipal council and hope to be able to make a valuable contribution with my experience and ideas. I will weigh up the challenges ahead conscientiously and carefully.”

The challenges facing Karlsruhe remain unchanged: “Just because the municipal council is now composed differently does not mean that our problems will change. Karlsruhe suffers from enormous debts and I don’t get the impression from some members of the municipal council that they are aware of the extent of this problem. As FÜR Karlsruhe, we are committed to sound finances that do not burden our future generations, but also give them financial freedom of action. This is what I will focus my work on. For me, this also means not forgetting the necessary investments that will help us all move forward. But as councillors, we now have to set priorities. We can no longer afford everything,” said Councillor Kalmbach in his first statement in the new legislative period.
