City Councillor Friedemann Kalmbach from the FÜR Karlsruhe electoral group has submitted a comprehensive question to Karlsruhe City Council on the subject of grid expansion and energy supply. Against the backdrop of the growing demand for electricity and the challenges of the energy transition, the question aims to make the strategies and plans of the city of Karlsruhe for a sustainable and stable energy supply in the coming years transparent.

“Climate protection and the energy transition are key issues for the future that will occupy Karlsruhe intensively in the coming years,” emphasizes City Councillor Kalmbach. “We must ensure that our infrastructure keeps pace with the increasing demands – and at the same time guarantee security of supply for our citizens.”

The inquiry examines the various aspects of energy policy: From the assessment of future electricity demand to the expansion of the electricity grids and concepts for storing surplus energy. The question of how the city of Karlsruhe intends to implement intelligent electricity management also plays a central role.

Specifically, FÜR Karlsruhe is asking how the city estimates the development of electricity demand over the next ten years and what measures are planned to adapt the electricity grids to the increasing feed-in of photovoltaic systems. The inquiry also focuses on security of supply during dark doldrums and peak loads as well as concepts for storing surplus energy. “

The energy transition will only be successful if we not only focus on the expansion of renewable energies, but also ensure their integration into a stable grid,” says Kalmbach.

The question also takes a look at the use of modern technologies: Are there plans for intelligent electricity management? And how could private households be involved in this? According to Kalmbach, these questions should help to drive forward the energy transition as a joint task in Karlsruhe.

With this inquiry, FÜR Karlsruhe aims to provide impetus for a transparent and future-oriented energy policy. The results will not only show where the city is already making progress, but also which challenges still need to be tackled in order to successfully shape the path to a sustainable energy future.
