In view of the global crises and wars, the Free Voters and “FÜR Karlsruhe” have submitted a request to the city administration: The city council group would like to receive information on the current state of civil protection in Karlsruhe. The starting point is the demand of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities (DStGB) and the Ministry of Defense regarding the reactivation of shelters and investments in the safety of the population. An inventory of the number of existing shelters and existing measures and concepts for the safety of the population in the event of crises and emergencies is an essential step towards promoting the sense of security of many citizens in Karlsruhe.

“We hope that such an emergency situation, which would make these measures and shelters necessary, never arises. Nevertheless, for reasons of transparency and safety, we believe it is necessary to carry out an inventory. If the city administration has already done this, then it would be a good step to publish concrete facts and data about Karlsruhe’s security situation. This is why we are submitting this motion,” says city councillor Jürgen Wenzel (Freie Wähler).

The city council group emphasizes the importance of a transparent and comprehensive information policy on the part of the city administration with regard to civil protection. The safety and well-being of citizens are at the heart of this commitment.

Councillor Wenzel emphasizes: “In this day and age, it is essential to think about security policy issues. That’s why we want to know from the city administration what the current state of civil protection is, what measures have been implemented by the federal and state governments and how the initiatives of the Ministry of Defense have been addressed.”

The city council group is hoping for a concrete response from the city administration that provides an honest inventory of the safety precautions.
