City council group of the Free Voters and the voters’ group FÜR Karlsruhe calls for a cost analysis for heating solutions and clear presentation for citizens.
The city council group of the Free Voters and the voter group FÜR Karlsruhe is committed to a transparent and cost-transparent data basis for heating system changes in Karlsruhe. In a supplementary motion to the City of Karlsruhe’s energy master plan, the city council groups demanded a detailed cost analysis for various heating solutions and a clear presentation of these costs for citizens.
The supplementary application provides for the city administration to calculate the economic costs of the heating solutions. Both the removal and dismantling costs of gas pipelines and the connection and conversion costs should be taken into account. Furthermore, the costs for heating solutions such as heat pumps, gas heating systems with H2-ready/H2, district heating and local heating for different types of buildings are to be presented transparently both during introduction and during ongoing operation. This information is to be presented on a map for each building in order to provide citizens with a sound basis for decision-making.
“Such a cost analysis should not only take into account current expenditure, but also provide an overall view of the measures. This includes, for example, converting an old building to use a heat pump or dismantling the gas infrastructure in places where local or district heating is available. It is important to us that both the local council and citizens who own buildings are informed about the costs and timetable,” says councillor Friedemann Kalmbach.
The city council group also points out that the potential supply of hydrogen to households connected to the gas grid from 2030 should be taken into account. The integration of this alternative into the integrated heat management plan is of central importance in order to weigh up the costs of the various heating systems on a building-specific map for citizens.
A transparent cost analysis creates clarity and supports both citizens and decision-makers in finding the best possible solution for a sustainable and economically viable heat supply in Karlsruhe in line with climate targets.
