Karlsruhe (FW|FUR) – The parliamentary group of the Free Voters and FOR Karlsruhe summed up the past five days as a bad reflection on security in Karlsruhe. “Attack in City Park, robbery of a gold chain, attack on a man, punches and kicks on Schlossplatz and now a homicide in the northern part of the city,” summarizes parliamentary group leader Jürgen Wenzel, “of course, the subjective sense of security has fallen sharply.”

The FW|FOR Karlsruhe faction is now asking about the current status of the announced security concept. “We also have to grasp the concerns of the citizens with a survey on their sense of security, from which measures can perhaps be taken,” explains City Councilor Friedemann Kalmbach. Not only the subjective feeling is important to the parliamentary group, which is why they are asking about the specific increase in registered cases of street crime in the first half of 2020. “Especially in the city center there is a need for a temporary or even a permanent contact point for the municipal security service and the police for citizens,” demands City Councilor Petra Lorenz, “that would be important, especially at hotspots such as Europaplatz or Kronenplatz.”

The parliamentary group wants to include the demands and inquiries in the upcoming municipal council meeting.
