Karlsruhe (FW|FUR) – The parliamentary group of free voters and FOR Karlsruhe calls again for a solution for the bicycle traffic in the southern forest road. This time, the parliamentary group is bringing an application for examination to the municipal council.
“Right from the start we had campaigned for a solution that takes cyclists into account,” explains City Councilor Petra Lorenz, “Last year we called for our own lane markings and this year even for an accelerated expansion of the bypass”. However, the large fractions saw no need for cycling. But it turns out that the Südliche Waldstraße was not only a promenade, but above all a cycle expressway.
“We had to listen to a lot on the subject, and after the implementation of the through ban for car traffic, it turns out what we had always said,” emphasizes parliamentary group leader Jürgen Wenzel, “a solution for cycling is also needed!”.
In its application, the parliamentary group this time demands a concept from the city administration that should get the situation in the southern forest road under control. In addition, the parliamentary group is also committed to examining whether Südliche Waldstraße can be redesignated as a pedestrian zone like Kaiserstraße. During business hours, it would only be possible to push bicycles. “Of course, such a rededication should only be part of a larger concept in which the Südliche Waldstraße can be cycled around,” City Councilor Friedemann Kalmbach clarifies.
