The FÜR Karlsruhe electoral group in Karlsruhe’s municipal council has published a new episode of its podcast format “The situation in Karlsruhe”. In this episode, city councillor Friedemann Kalmbach (FÜR Karlsruhe) and podcast host Micha Schlittenhardt talk to the First Mayor and Finance Mayor of Karlsruhe, Gabriele Luczak-Schwarz (CDU).
First Mayor Luczak-Schwarz provides exclusive insights into Karlsruhe’s current financial situation. She explains the consequences of increased deficits and budget freezes and talks openly about the effects on the city’s society and administration. The question of why so much has to be saved right now is also discussed. In addition, the difference between a municipality’s compulsory and voluntary tasks is explained and why cultural and social services, such as the second child subsidy in daycare centers, are so much in focus. In addition, the balancing act between investment in municipal infrastructure and sustainable financing is highlighted. Finally, what happens when a city can no longer balance its budget will be discussed. Together with Luczak-Schwarz, we will take a look at the upcoming double budgets and discuss the balancing act between the need to save money and maintaining quality of life.
The podcast “The situation in Karlsruhe” is available as a video format on YouTube and can be heard on all common podcast platforms.
