Karlsruhe has voted. With a voter turnout of 61.4%, the citizens elected the 48 city councillors for their city. Councillor Petra Lorenz (Freie Wähler) and Councillor Friedemann Kalmbach (FÜR Karlsruhe) stood for re-election and once again received the trust of the voters – both councillors will be part of the new municipal council. Councillor Jürgen Wenzel (Freie Wähler), a Karlsruhe City Councillor for 15 years, did not stand for re-election.
The city council group is satisfied with its work over the past 5 years: “Our fact-oriented, constructive and friendly cooperation as a city council group has directly translated into political content. We wanted to solve problems and be innovative in order to seek the best for Karlsruhe. We have achieved this. With our political approach, we introduced new ideas and were able to shape local politics across all parties,” said City Councillor Kalmbach.
“Many of our ideas have contributed to positively shaping our cityscape. As city councillors, we want to continue to do this. We need a citizen-oriented and non-ideological policy that does not impose any restrictions on itself, but wants to tackle and solve problems,” says Councillor Lorenz.
With a total of two city councillors, it will not be possible to continue working as a city council group consisting of Freie Wähler and FÜR Karlsruhe, as three city councillors are required to form a city council group. Petra Lorenz will join forces with the FDP city councillors for the coming legislative period. Friedemann Kalmbach takes up his work without group status

Our work in figures

The work of the city council group over the last five years has been intensive and productive. In several formats, the city council group has made its work in the municipal council transparent. Particularly noteworthy are the 45 podcasts, in which the city councillors discussed the situation in Karlsruhe with personalities from the city, experts on a wide range of topics and colleagues from the municipal council and sought an exchange of views. But much more was achieved. Here is our work in figures:
