Südstadt-Ost needs a better public transport connection! This is the view of the city council group Freie Wähler and FÜR Karlsruhe. Especially in the area between Sybelstraße, Luisenstraße and Stuttgarter Straße, the distances to the next stop are long. The city council group proposes two new stops on Stuttgarter Straße, which would give some streets a much better connection.
The idea of new stops in Stuttgarter Straße was positively received by the Karlsruhe transport authority in the main committee. Various concepts are to be developed as to how the new connections in Südstadt-Ost can be designed.
City Councilor Petra Lorenz (Freie Wähler) welcomes the fact that the poor connection of Südstadt-Ost to the city center is being addressed: “It is a great concern of ours that public transportation is easy to reach throughout Karlsruhe. The decision to take the train or bus is much easier when the stop is 50 meters away instead of 200. In Karlsruhe, and especially in Südstadt, action is needed there!”
The city council group Freie Wähler and FÜR Karlsruhe continues to advocate for new bus stops to be built in Südstadt.
Parliamentary group chairman Friedemann Kalmbach (FÜR Karlsruhe) sees a structural problem in Karlsruhe’s public transport connections: “If you are traveling in the Innstadt, you can rely on a functioning transport network with good connections and frequent travel times. However, if you move away from the city center, the stops are much further apart. Many citizens then understandably decide against using public transportation. We hope that this will be taken into account and worked on by the administration and the transport companies. We will be supportive of that.”
